Historien de formation, puis journalist et critique d’art, Geoffrey James se consacre exclusivement à la photographie depuis le début des années quatre-vingt. Fasciné par la constante transformation du paysage naturel sous l’influence de la culture, il a dirigé sa lentille aussi bien sur les classiques jardins français et italiens ou sur le romantisme des grands projets paysagers de Frederic L. Omsted, que sur le long mur de métal qui serpente à la frontière entre les États-Unis et le Mexique et, plus récemment, sur l’étalement urbain.o

Born in Wales in 1942, lives and works in Toronto.

Trained as a historian, journalist and art critic, Geoffrey James has devoted himself to photography since the beginning of the 80’s. Fascinated by the constant transformations of the natural landscape by culture, he has directed his lenses onto the classic French and Italian gardens, the romanticism of the American landscapes shaped by Frederic L. Omsted and onto gigantic constructions such as open pits of asbestos mines in Quebec and the long metal wall erected on the frontier between the United States and Mexico. More recently, his work has focused on the strange and unruly growth of urban sprawls.
